Maintaining swimwear: Tips to keep your favorite swimwear looking good for longer

Summer means sun, sea, beach! We spend more time outside again, mainly in the water or in the sand. This means that we are increasingly exchanging our regular clothes for our favorite swimwear . Completely right with our new collection, but when you invest in beautiful and high-quality swimwear, you naturally want to ensure that it lasts a long time and always looks its best. Good maintenance of your swimwear is therefore essential to extend its lifespan and ensure that you can continue to enjoy your favorite swimwear. In this blog post we share useful tips and guidelines for maintaining your new Pavo swimwear and keeping it beautiful for longer!

Rinse your swimwear immediately after wearing it

After a wonderful day at the beach or at the pool, it is very important to rinse your swimwear immediately. Rinsing your swimwear in cold water has several benefits and helps to extend the life of your favorite bikini or swimsuit.

First of all, rinsing your swimsuit is essential to thoroughly remove sand, salt water, chlorine and sunscreen. Grains of sand can get stuck in the fibers of the fabric and abrade, causing damage. In addition, salt water can affect the structure of the fabric and chlorine can weaken the fabric, causing it to lose its elasticity and shape more quickly. Rinsing your swimwear thoroughly helps to effectively remove these harmful substances, thus preventing the build-up of long-term damage.

In addition, rinsing your swimwear immediately after use helps prevent discoloration of the fabric. Salt water, chlorine and sunscreen can cause stains and discoloration on your swimwear over time. By immediately rinsing your swimwear, you prevent these substances from penetrating deep into the fibers and the color remains fresher and more vibrant.

An added benefit of rinsing your swimwear regularly is that it reduces the need for frequent washes. By rinsing your swimwear immediately after use, you prevent stains and odors from settling and penetrating the fabric. This allows you to enjoy your swimwear for longer during the hot summer days, without having to wash it extensively. In short, by thoroughly rinsing your swimwear immediately after a day at the beach or pool, you protect the fabric against harmful substances, discoloration and wear. This means your favorite swimwear retains its original beauty and quality, so you can enjoy it for a long time during the hot summer days.

Wash your swimwear by hand

It is always best to wash your swimwear by hand rather than in the washing machine. Trust us, there really are better ways to wash your swimwear than the washing machine, so don't do it for a longer lifespan of the fabrics. Washing by hand causes the material to loosen, which changes the fit. Use a mild detergent that is suitable for delicate fabrics and do not use too much!

Fill a bucket or sink with cold water and add the detergent. Soak your swimsuit for a few minutes and gently rub the fabric to remove any residue. You can gently swirl your swimwear in the water so that the cleaning agent reaches all parts of the suit. Do not let your swimwear soak in water for longer than 30 minutes, as this can loosen the fibers! Rinse thoroughly and gently squeeze out excess water without wringing.

Avoid using bleach and fabric softener

Using a mild detergent is crucial when maintaining your swimwear. A mild detergent is specially designed to remove harmful materials and chemicals without affecting the delicate and fine fibers of your swimwear. It ensures that your favorite swimwear stays fresh and clean, while retaining its original quality.

When maintaining your swimwear, it is essential to avoid bleach and fabric softener. Bleach can damage the elastic fibers and fade the colors, leaving your swimwear looking faded and worn. Fabric softeners can leave a film on the fabric, reducing its breathability and affecting its elasticity.

Instead, opt for a mild, pH-neutral soap or liquid detergent specifically formulated for delicate garments. These gentle cleaning agents ensure that your swimwear is thoroughly cleaned without causing damage. Alternatively, baking soda can also be used to clean your swimwear. Baking soda is known for its natural cleaning properties and is a safe option for removing stubborn stains and odors.

Dry your swimwear on a flat surface

Do not hang your swimwear to dry as this can cause the fabric to stretch. Instead, it's best to place your swimsuit on a flat surface, such as a towel, to dry. Avoid direct sunlight as this can fade the color of the fabric. Absolutely do not put it in the dryer! This heat can damage the fibers as well

affect the fit.

Be careful with rough surfaces

In addition to using a mild detergent and avoiding bleach and fabric softener, it's also essential to be careful when wearing your swimwear on rough surfaces. It's tempting to scrape against sharp rocks or sit on rough pool edges, but this can lead to unwanted damage to your swimwear. For example, choose soft surfaces, such as a towel or a beach chair, to sit on. This prevents the fine fibers of the fabric of your swimwear from coming into direct contact with rough surfaces that can cause damage. Sharp edges can also easily cause dust bunnies or even small tears in the fabric of your swimwear.

By being aware of your surroundings and taking care when wearing your swimwear on rough surfaces, you can significantly extend the life of your favorite swimwear. This way you can continue to enjoy the beautiful look of your swimwear, season after season, without having to worry about unwanted damage.

Alternate between multiple swimwear pieces

It may sound simple and possibly even unnecessary, but there is a logic behind it: rotating your swimwear. Regularly changing your swimwear prevents excessive wear and contributes to maintaining the quality of your favorite bikinis and swimsuits. When you wear the same swimsuit repeatedly, the fabric is exposed to constant friction, stretch and chemicals such as sunscreen and chlorine. This can lead to weakening of the fibers and ultimately wear of the fabric. By rotating between different swimwear pieces you give the fabrics the chance to recover and return to their original shape.

A practical tip is to let your swimsuits rest and air out before wearing them again. For example, hang them in a well-ventilated place to let them dry and stay fresh. This gives the fabrics the opportunity to evaporate moisture and odors, making your swimwear ready for the next diving session.

So, don't underestimate the importance of rotating your swimwear. By regularly switching between different bikinis and swimsuits you will reduce wear and tear, maintain the quality of the fabric and at the same time create variety in your beach and pool style. It is a simple but effective way to enjoy your beloved swimwear collection for longer.
