What is the best way to calculate your bra size?
Do you know your bra size? It sounds simple, but a surprising number of women wear the wrong size every day. A good fit starts with one crucial step: calculating your bra size . Yet, that's precisely where things often go wrong.
At Pavo Couture , our lingerie brand all about comfort, style, and confidence, we know how important it is to calculate your bra size correctly. That's why we're diving deeper into the process of calculating bra size in this blog post, because it's easier, and more important, than you think.
Whether you're looking for a new bra or just want to check if your size is still correct, calculating your bra size is essential. In this blog post, we explain step-by-step how to calculate your bra size, easily and accurately, at home.
Why is calculating your bra size so important?
A bra that doesn't fit properly is something you feel all day long. It pinches, chafes, or slides down—and the first thing you do when you get home? Take it off. And that's a shame, because a bra should support you, not irritate you. The cause of this discomfort often lies in one simple mistake: wearing the wrong size. That's why calculating your bra size isn't an unnecessary luxury, but an essential step in your lingerie routine.
Many women still rely on a size they were measured in a store, or base their choice on feeling. But your body changes: weight, hormones, age – everything plays a role. A size that fit perfectly last year can feel completely different now. Therefore, regularly calculating your bra size is crucial to continue finding that perfect fit.
A well-fitting bra isn't just about comfort. It also affects your posture, your appearance, and even how your clothes drape. A proper fit ensures your breasts are supported in the right places, without pressure points or bumps under your shirt. And let's be honest: when your bra feels good, you feel more confident—whether you're lounging on the couch at home or standing in front of a packed house.
At Pavo Couture, we believe every woman deserves to wear lingerie that's not only beautiful but also fits perfectly. That's why this blog post explains step-by-step how to easily calculate your bra size yourself. With the right information and a measuring tape, you can go a long way. And trust us: you'll feel the difference.
This is how you can calculate your bra size yourself
Calculating your bra size might sound complicated, but a few simple measurements can go a long way. All you need is a measuring tape, a mirror, and a few minutes of your time. It's best to do this without a bra or with an unpadded, unlined bra for the most accurate measurement. Ready? Then let's get started step by step.
Step 1: Measure your underbust size (band size)
Place the measuring tape snugly around your torso, just below your breasts. Make sure the tape remains straight and doesn't slant up or down. Breathe out gently to avoid adding extra centimeters. The number you now see is your underbust measurement in centimeters. Round this number to the nearest whole number (for example: 73.5 cm becomes 74 cm). This will determine your bra band size.
Step 2: Measure your bust (cup size)
Now measure the fullest part of your breasts, usually at the level of your nipples. The measuring tape should be looser here than with the underbust measurement; it shouldn't crush your breasts, but it should fit snugly. Round up to the nearest whole number.
Step 3: Calculate the difference
Now subtract your underbust measurement from your bust measurement. That difference determines your cup size. Below is a helpful guideline:
| Difference in cm | Cup size |
|---|---|
| 12–13 cm | A |
| 14–15 cm | B |
| 16–17 cm | C |
| 18–19 cm | D |
| 20–21 cm | E |
| 22–23 cm | F |
For example: your underbust measurement is 78 cm, and your bust measurement is 94 cm. The difference is 16 cm, which means your cup size is C. Combined with your band size (for example, 75), your bra size becomes 75C .
Does this sound familiar? Then your bra size might not be right.
Sometimes you think your bra fits perfectly, but your body is already giving you signals that something's wrong. Here are three clear signs that it's time to calculate your bra size:
1. Your breasts are bulging out of your bra
Is your bra tight at the top or sides, and do you see a bulge under your shirt? Then the cup is probably too small. Time to re-measure.
2. Your tire is creeping up
If the back of your bra rides up, it means the band size is too big. A well-fitting band stays straight and secure.
3. You keep feeling him
Do you constantly have to adjust your bra, does it slip or irritate? Then something's wrong, and it's time to calculate your bra size.
These are small signals, but they make a world of difference in comfort. So: measuring is knowing.
